Original Line of “Paradise City” You Didn’t Know About Will Make You Cringe

Take Me Down To The Paraphrase City

Paradise City was ranked number 21 on VH1’s 40 Greatest Metal Songs Of All Time. It was also the favorite Guns N’ Roses song of Slash.

Slash stated that the song was written in a rented van. They were drinking and playing acoustic guitars in the back of the van. Slash came up with an intro of the song, so Duff and Izzy started playing along with Slash. Axl Rose started to sing, “Take me down to the Paradise City”, and Slash interjected, “Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.”

During his interview with Fuse, Slash reminisces about how they came up with the song Paradise City.

“‘Take me down to the Paradise City where the girls are fat and they got big titties,’ I think that was my original lyric for it and the other guys changed it, we all thought it was funny but it wasn’t going to make it on the album. I think that’s how it went.”  –Slash

What would happen with the song if they’d chosen the original lyrics of Slash? It would basically be offensive because most girls don’t want to get fat or be called fat. If they decided to use that line for the lyrics it would not be an “in thing”. And it could’ve possibly turned the rock world around. Axl and Slash definitely live in a different alternate universe apparently. The other preferred the skinny version and the other one chose the other thing.

Now we know what the actually supposed lyrics is, we can’t help but sing it while we listen to the song.
