Hanson Tackle Iconic Blues Brothers Scene
It’s been a while since we last checked in on Hanson, the Tulsa, Oklahoma trio that gave us the 1997 megahit “MMMBop”.
Comprised of brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson, Hanson have come a long, long way in the last two decades. Now grown men in their 30s with wives, children, and a vast repertoire of musical influences to call upon, they’ve shed their long hair and sugary pop sound in exchange for something as dynamic, mature and eclectic as they are – and when you put all of that together, you get tracks like “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin,'” complete with a music video that finds the brothers Hanson paying tribute to a set of brothers you might remember.
The music video for “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin'” finds Hanson paying tribute to the Blues Brothers; more specifically, the iconic “Shake A Tail Feather” scene from the 1980 film starring Dan Aykroyd and late legend John Belushi.
The Blues Brothers (1980) – Shake A Tail Feather
You remember it: Ray Charles rocking an organ in the middle of Ray’s Music Exchange as Elwood and Joliet Jake and their band dance beside him, a crowd of people dancing in the street.
Hanson tackled the scene head on and the result is absolutely brilliant. Taylor Hanson, sporting a pair of dark Ray-Bans and a shirt similar to the one Ray Charles wore, holds it down behind a small organ while brothers Isaac and Zac pull off some seriously sweet Blues Brothers dance moves next to him. They even call the music store “Tay’s Music Exchange,” a direct nod to the original scene.
If you look closely, you’ll even spot the legendary Weird Al Yankovic getting down with a tambourine!
The Making Of “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin'”
Music should always feel good, and nothing feels better than a well done music video for an even better song that pays tribute to one of the greatest movies of the 20th century.
