“Poor ol’ blind Bono!”

When U2 started as a band in the mid-1970s, Bono had a need for hair conditioner but no need for glasses whatsoever. So why did the legendary frontman start wearing the colored spectacles and never takes them off? Well, the reason is more than just for fashion. Bono shares with British comedy talk show host Graham Norton,

“I have glaucoma. For the last 20 years.”

He’s not blind, mind you, he reveals that his vision is actually perfect, saying,

“The thing about glaucoma is that I have 20/20 vision. So I go to do these eye tests and I say, ‘I don’t really need one because I’ve got perfect [vision].'”

Glaucoma is a chronic eye condition that makes the eyes highly sensitive to light. It can lead to loss of sight or permanent blindness if not treated properly. But Bono assures us we have nothing to worry about as there are available treatments for his eye condition.

He turned his ailment into an iconic look and was very nonchalant enough to actually make hilarious jokes about it.
