On February 25, 1972, Led Zeppelin performed the third appearance of a six-date Australasian tour, at Western Springs Stadium, a concert ground in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland.
Positioned near the stage was 20-year-old cinematographer Lloyd Godman, loaded with an 8mm movie camera, who succeeded in capturing amazing footage of the group’s in full performance.
He then kept the film to his shed, where it was hidden undisturbed for almost half a century.
“I knew I had this roll of film in the shed so I sent it off to get digitised,” Godman shares to the New Zealand Herald. “I knew there was band stuff on it but I didn’t know what it was. It came back and there was the Zeppelin film.”
The five minutes of the film may be positively dismal, but a Zeppelin historian in the US accomplished to synch the footage to sound recordings from the concert, and the outcome was premiered recently on the LedZepFilm YouTube channel.
Between the pieces of tracks performed in the film are Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Dazed And Confused, Rock And Roll, and Whole Lotta Love.
