Dad Surprises Son From Beyond The Grave
Not a lot of people get closure when they lose a parent. If you’re lucky, you get the chance to say goodbye and tell them how much you love them and how grateful you are for the love and lessons they left with you; if you’re 16-year-old Johnny Crow, you’re left not just with love and memories, but a once in a lifetime gift that reduces you to tears of joy.
Johnny celebrated his 16th birthday – his first without his dad, who died on April 1st of last year. His older sister Chandler, who knew of the surprise to come more than a month ago, picked him up from school and after blindfolding him, drove him to Port Huron Music Center where she handed Johnny a birthday card, filming as he softly read the card; hands trembling and voice shaking with emotion when he got to the end that read “Love, Dad,” Johnny burst into tears when Port Huron Music Center employees unearthed a large guitar case and opened it, revealing a brand new Dean Razorback guitar – one final gift from dad, who purchased the guitar shortly before his death.
“I was definitely overjoyed that my father gave me one last thing to remember him by,” said the Port Huron High sophomore. “I know a lot of kids don’t get that.”
Y’all, I don’t know how Chandler managed to keep this a secret, but we’re so, so grateful that she was able to help gift her brother with such a once in a lifetime gift. If she isn’t the best big sister in the world, I don’t know who is. Happy birthday from Society of Rock, Johnny Crow – we hope you had the best birthday ever, and we look forward to seeing what you do with that Razorback!
