The Marvel Cinematic Universe or the “MCU” has been dominating Hollywood in the last decade with the rise of wide-reaching blockbuster comic-book films. And aside from these films being incredibly entertaining, one of the great things about the rise of these comic book movies are the soundtracks. It is not uncommon for movies to use well-known classic rock songs in their soundtracks, but the MCU tends to embrace quite a lot of rock n’ roll to make their awesome movies even more awesome. And with the vast world-wide popularity of these films, more people are introduced to the brilliance of classic rock as used in films that feature everyone’s favorite superheroes.
The tie-up of superhero movies and classic rock songs all began with the first-ever MCU film that just happens to share the same title with one of the most iconic classic rock hits: Iron Man. The MCU had a lot of fun associating the movie with the song, not only did it feature Black Sabbath’s timeless track in the movie (as it should!), the entire soundtrack of its sequel Iron Man 2 features mostly AC/DC songs, 15 classic tracks to be exact.
And the trend caught on with MCU’s succeeding films featuring classic rock tracks. Notably on Guardians of the Galaxy, the soundtrack also mostly consisted of classic rock songs from the 70s and 80s.
