In 1974, Parton released the album Jolene, which was a huge bestseller in the United States and Canada. The album’s first single, “Jolene”, reached # 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

This song, in addition, was named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the best songs of all time. The second single was “I Will Always Love You,” a romantic ballad that reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. After releasing the Say Forever You’ll Be Mine board in 1975 alongside Wagoner, whose self-titled single reached number one on the Canadian country charts, he paused to solidify his solo career.
