Did You Catch Austin Powers Star Mike Myers Cameo In Bohemian Rhapsody?

And did you catch his subtle Wayne’s World reference?

Mike Myers, most popularly known first as the star of the classic comedy film based on a series of Saturday Night Live skits, Wayne’s World, and of course, from Austin Powers. You may not have recognized Myers in the newest Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” because of the exceptional makeup that successfully hid his recognizable face. Myers plays a character named Ray Foster, who is an executive at EMI Records, the record label of Queen (though History vs. Hollywood reports that Ray Foster seems to be a fictional character).

Spoiler warning ahead:

In the movie, there is a scene where the band is trying to convince Myers’ character Ray Foster to allow them to release “Bohemian Rhapsody” as their lead single off their album A Night at the Opera. The band is confident and convinced that “Bohemian Rhapsody” will help them make history in the music industry. However, Foster was stubborn and wouldn’t let the band release the song for the reason that it is six minutes long, saying that the radio stations will not be able to play the track. Also, that the operatic section of the song isn’t the type of thing that will make teenagers headbang in their car. — This is a reference to the iconic opening scene of Myers’ Wayne’s World where Wayne Campbell, Garth Algar, and three of their friends drive around town blasting Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and headbanging throughout the song. Each character sing “Galileo” in the operatic part!

When Bohemian Rhapsody was sung in Wayne’s World in 1992, 25 years after its initial release, it helped put the song back on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, where it reached No. 2. In an interview in 2014, Myers revealed that he actually lobbied to the producers to get Queen’s classic in the movie against the wishes of the studio.
