In a heartfelt and powerful tribute, Lizzo honored the late Tina Turner during her ongoing “The Special Tour.” The talented vocalist took a moment during her concert in Phoenix, Arizona, on May 24 to acknowledge the passing of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and deliver an electrifying rendition of Turner’s iconic 1970 hit, “Proud Mary.”
With the spotlight shining on her, Lizzo shared her emotions with the audience, saying, “Today, we lost an icon. And I haven’t allowed myself to be sad. I haven’t allowed myself to cry about it. And I don’t want to right now because I’d much rather celebrate the incredible legend Tina Turner is. As a Black girl in a rock band, I would not exist if it was not for the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
With passion and conviction, Lizzo declared, “There would be no rock ‘n’ roll without Tina Turner!”
The tribute showcased Lizzo’s deep admiration for Turner and the profound influence the legendary artist had on her own career. By performing “Proud Mary” in such a heartfelt manner, Lizzo not only paid tribute to a trailblazer but also expressed the impact Turner had on the world of music and the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
