The much-awaited trailer for the Elton John biopic has arrived. From director Dexter Fletcher comes Rocketman, the movie on the great Sir Elton John’s life that was promised as “based on a true fantasy.” The movie stars Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s Taron Egerton and proved that he can definitely sing. In an early interview everyone who has heard him” has reportedly been “gobsmacked by the quality of his voice and its proximity to the subject.”

In the trailer, and also in the movie, they really did use Egerton’s singing voice belting out the classic hit “Rocket Man”. The 28-year-old actor has already had a history working with director Dexter Fletcher. In 2016, Fletcher worked with Egerton in the light and fun movie Eddie the Eagle with Hugh Jackman. With Egerton’s mainstream star power and of course, Elton John’s powerful and timeless following, it looks like Rocketman is going to be a big hit.

It’s also worth noting that Elton John himself and his husband David Furnish are both producers on the project. The script was written by Billy Elliot vet Lee Hall and it will definitely be tackling John’s extensive songbook.

According to a report by Deadline, the movie will cover “the course of a most iconic life,” and will present “an unvarnished rock ‘n’ roll biopic with John’s life stripped back of the glitter.”

The one-minute trailer gives fans a glimpse of John’s era-defining costumes and performances. Originally, it was Tom Hardy and not Egerton who was supposed to play the lead role but left the project when he admitted that  “I’m not a singer, I’m really trying because of Rocketman, but it’s hard to open my mouth in that way.”
