Before Tom Petty’s death due to heart attack, his show at the Hollywood Bowl was his last ever live performance. The last two songs he ever played were, “You Wreck Me,” and his classic hit, “American Girl.”

The rock icon even had final words for his audience: 

 “I wanna thank you for 40 years of a really great time”

A week later, after finishing a three-night show at the Hollywood Bowl for their 40th-anniversary tour – he would pass away, after suffering a cardiac arrest on the morning of Oct. 2, 2017, at the age of 66. 

What you’re about to watch below is the final performance of Tom Petty with crowds cheering as they finish and stayed to sign some autographs. 

His final words to his audience before he walked off the stage:

“God bless you! Goodnight!”
