It was April 24, 1981, the date set for the legendary rock band, Mötley Crüe, to give their first concert, exactly 4 decades ago.

Nikki Sixx, the bassist of the Crüe, two days ago commemorated this occasion by uploading a photo of the band to his Instagram with a description (transcribed by Blabbermouth) that said the following:

“40 years ago @motleycrue played our first show together at the Starwood club in Hollywood California. Happy anniversary @thevinceneil @mr.mickmars @tommylee. It’s been one hell of an adventure. THANK YOU.”

A few months earlier, on January 17, 1981, Sixx played for the first time alongside Tommy Lee and vocalist and guitarist Greg Leon. Later, Leon left the band and they recruited Mick Mars and Vince Neil. The rest, as they say, is history …

Nikki recently spoke about this Crüe anniversary:

“In ‘Kickstart My Heart’, the lyrics say, ‘When we started this band / All we needed, needed was a laugh / Years gone by, I’d say we’ve kicked some ass.’

“It’s always been about great songs and over-the-top live shows for us. The fans were always right by our side. I don’t know where all of the years went. It went by in a flash. What I can’t forget are the four decades of fans who have counted themselves as Crüeheads from day one, supporting us through thick and thin. To them, we are in debt and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

“Happy 40th birthday to us all.”

Neil, Sixx, Mars, and Lee are firmly rooted in rock history. Mötley Crüe has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, reaching seven platinum and multiplane albums in the US, having six Top 20 singles and three Grammy nominations. In 2016, the band was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The impressive staging of Mötley Crüe has sold more than 100 million tickets worldwide.

In 2019 ‘The Dirt’ was released as a biopic of the band. The film became one of the biggest releases of that year and earned a 94% positive viewership score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The band has not stopped for a single moment and continues to be a great global attraction. The latest that is known is that they will head a tour of the United States, whose tickets are almost sold out, and that will feature the participation of Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett in June, July, August, and September 2021.
