The Songs That Can Trigger A Lot Of People
Songs that we hear from the radio or the one we listen to on our playlist are often the ones we like, but some that we haven’t encountered in a while will make us realize – “oh, this song is actually offensive, and always has been.”
And yes, the probability is that they were.
Below, you’ll find a list of politically incorrect songs that we often hear somewhere:
10. Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones, 1971
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields / Sold in the market down in New Orleans / Scarred old slaver knows he’s doing alright / Hear him whip the women just around midnight.”
Why It’s Offensive: Racism, misogyny and outright references to raping slaves make this song ugly, and Mick Jagger knows these lyrics won’t fly in today.
9. Under My Thumb by the Rolling Stones, 1966
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Under my thumb, the squirmin’ dog who’s just had her day / Under my thumb, a girl who has just changed her ways.”
Why It’s Offensive: Another one of Stones ugly entry, – it’s about a woman, who has no right to speak when not spoken to.
8. Island Girl by Elton John, 1975

Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Island girl, what you wanting with the white man’s world / Island girl, black boy wants you in his island world”
Why It’s Offensive: Very cringeworthy that’s referencing to a New York City prostitute who’s “black as coal but she burns like a fire.”
7. Rape Me by Nirvana, 1993
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Rape me / Rape me, my friend”
Why It’s Offensive: Well, the title speaks for itself.
6. Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright) by Rod Stewart, 1976
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Don’t say a word, my virgin child, just let your inhibitions run wild”
Why It’s Offensive: I don’t know, but I think this is child abuse.
5. One in a Million by Guns N’ Roses, 1988

Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Immigrants and f****ts, they make no sense to me / They come to our country and think they’ll do as they please”
Why It’s Offensive: Racist, sexist, and insulting – a typical Axl Rose move.
4. Kissin’ Cousins by Elvis Presley, 1964
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Well I’ve got a gal, she’s as cute as she can be / She’s a distant cousin but she’s not too distant with me”
Why It’s Offensive: Well, the title is even disgusting as it sounds. Was he trying to promote incest?
3. Illegal Alien by Genesis, 1983
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “It’s no fun being an illegal alien”
Why It’s Offensive: Another racist slur, even the music video says it all.
2. Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed, 1972
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “Holly came from Miami, F-L-A / Hitchhiked her way across the USA / Plucked her eyebrows on the way / Shaved her legs and then he was a she”
Why It’s Offensive: Another white man song filled with hatred.
1. Dude (Looks Like a Lady) by Aerosmith, 1987
Politically Incorrect Lyric: “She had the body of a Venus / Lord, imagine my surprise / Dude looks like a lady”
Why It’s Offensive: The rock classic was co-written by an openly gay songwriter Desmond Child, I don’t know if it will fly in today with today’s media.
