At the CMT Music Awards in Austin, The Black Crowes and Darius Rucker teamed up to perform “She Talks to Angels,” the band’s hit from 1990.
The Robinson brothers of The Black Crowes expressed their admiration for Rucker, saying that they share similar backgrounds and paths. Rucker, who has been a long-time fan of the song, was thrilled to sing with Chris and hit the harmonies. The band hoped that the audience would also feel the soulful connection with the music that they experience during their performance. Gary Clark Jr. also performed at the awards show.
At the CMT Awards, Gary Clark Jr. performed a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan by covering “The House Is Rockin’.” The event also featured an all-star tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd with Slash, Billy Gibbons, Paul Rodgers, and members of the Allman Brothers Band.
The artists performed “Simple Man” and “Sweet Home Alabama” after being introduced by Peter Frampton. The tribute was in honor of Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, the last surviving original member of the band, who passed away last month at the age of 71.
