What’s so great about the Grateful Dead?

It seems to be that The Grateful Dead are the only rock legends that can level with The Beatles in terms of impact on the music industry.

It’s hard to define how great The Grateful Dead are as musicians and the only way that you can describe their artistry is for you to go and see for yourselves – but it takes a very long time, but not a tedious one, to learn and appreciate all that music that they’ve given us, and by doing so it’s all gonna worth it.

“They’re not the best at what they do, they’re the only ones that do what they do.” ― Bill Graham

“We’re like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.”― Jerry Garcia

In this rare footage of The Grateful Dead playing Sugar Magnolia at Capitol Theatre during 1977, you can see that they aren’t just about the “onstage dynamic.” People were actually focusing on the music, not on the band. You don’t hear anyone screaming not until the jam is done. You can actually tell by the look on their faces that these guys are musical geniuses.

We have witnessed countless of rock bands, and some of them are legends in their own rights, but The Grateful Dead hold one distinction. A band that is beyond description.
