On the late Eddie Van Halen’s birthday, his son Wolfgang shared a heartfelt tweet in commemoration of his father who would have turned 68 this year. Along with a picture of a happy moment between the two, Wolfgang expressed what he would do if Eddie were still alive today.

“Happy 68th Birthday, Pop,” he wrote in the tweet. “Wish I could give you a big hug and tell it to you in person. I love and miss you more than you could ever know.”

Additionally, Eddie’s ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli, posted two pictures on her social media of herself, Wolfgang, and Eddie, without a written birthday message, accompanied by a white heart emoji. Eddie’s wife also wrote a birthday message for him on her Instagram account.

“Happy Heavenly Birthday, my Peep,” she wrote in the caption. The post had a quote as well, “And some smiles never leave you the same.”

Although Alex Van Halen does not have a social media presence, he still conveyed a birthday message for Eddie through the Van Halen News Desk.

“Without music, life would be a mistake. Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent. Music is what tells us that the human race is greater than we realize,” Alex quoted Albert Einstein. “Ed, we love you,” he added.

The late Eddie Van Halen had a long-standing battle with substance addiction that started in his teenage years with drinking and smoking. Additionally, he fought cancer of the tongue, throat, and lung. Sadly, he passed away from a stroke on October 6, 2020, surrounded by his wife Janie, ex-wife Valerie, son Wolfgang, and brother Alex.

After their separation, Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen continued to have a close relationship. At Eddie’s wedding to Janie Liszewski, both Valerie and Wolfgang were in attendance and Alex Van Halen served as the officiant. The news of Eddie’s passing was a huge blow to everyone, particularly Alex, who has since become reclusive as he deals with his grief.
